The cat is prominent domestic species of small wild carnivorous mammal. It’s the only domesticated animal in the category Felidae, which is also referred to as the feline family and which also includes all the remaining wild species of this group. Though cats are most commonly bred for their color (as in the case of Siamese cats), other characteristics or attributes do not always lead to successful breeding. For instance, a male cat that was long-haired would have had difficulty producing sufficient quantities of hair to maintain its distinct coat color. And similarly, a short-haired cat that was going bald would not have been able to sustain the same body weight once turned into an ultra-shy cat.

Though it is nearly impossible to breed a cat that possesses true personality, many felines do indeed exhibit certain unique physical traits that are characteristic of individual personalities. Cat behavioral traits can either be very good or very bad, depending upon a cat’s genetic makeup and the ecological circumstances it lives in. Some cats, for instance, are highly energetic and lively but very sensitive to cold. Other cats, like some members of the tabby group, are highly suited to living with people but not to hunting. There are even breeds of cat that are predominantly hunters who only out-breed in order to fill their hunting roles.

Domestic cats range from those that are generally affectionate toward their owners to those that are outright hostile or aggressive toward people. Examples include the short-haired American Shorthair, Persian Cat, Settee, and a number of other breeds. Many felines have bushy tails, and most are rather quick in learning to walk on four legs. Many breeds have solid black, white, or blue coats and some are solid-colored with multiple white stripes of different colors.

A lot of female cats are spayed or neutered before they are born, which takes care of their reproductive capabilities and their desire to mate. Neutering is also a safe procedure for pregnant females, because it prevents the kittens from being born with sperm packets in the uterus. In this way, the kittens do not inherit any genetic abnormalities. Spaying also helps a female cat to cope with pregnancy and childbirth, because she will not be in the mood to breed. On the downside, it does take several weeks during which time a cat can be back to normal behavior.

Fierce predators such as lions and hyenas enjoy eating cats and their furs. Cat furs can make great cat toys and beautiful home accents, but cats also enjoy eating meat. Because cats are carnivores, the ideal food for them would be meat that is freshly killed. Chicken and beef are probably the best choices, although you should never feed your cat any canned or frozen food, since canned food tends to retain a lot of moisture, which is not good for cats with tender stomachs. If you want to give your cat something that is more digestible, it is best to provide dry cat food.

Although cats and dogs can be friendly and even adopt affection towards each other, cats sometimes take it too far and harm dogs. If you have cats around, make sure that they do not attack dogs. This will save you a lot of money in veterinary bills for the dogs. Also, if you observe that your cat has been attacking a dog, get it checked out immediately to prevent it from doing serious damage to the dog’s organs.
